1. Clean and inspect the old sewer line
In this step, the plumber will use a hydro jet or other pipe cleaning system to scour the inside of the existing sewer line. The purpose of this thorough cleaning is to remove roots, grease and fats, and other potential obstructions.
Trenchless repiping can still be performed if there are cracks or other minor areas of damage in the line, including slight misalignment issues. However, the line needs to be as clear and clean as possible for the best long-term results.
2. Prepare a section of uncured pipe liner
Once the affected section of sewer line has been cleaned and measured, a length of felt tubing will be selected and cut to size. Next, the plumber will saturate the felt tubing in a slow-curing epoxy resin until it is well-coated and then set the tubing aside.
3. Insert the uncured pipe liner into the old sewer line
After preparing the felt tubing, the plumber will create an access point to gain entry to the old sewer line. The saturated piece of felt tubing will then be inserted into the opening of the sewer line, and pneumatic pressure will be used to force the tubing into the line.
The felt tubing will inflate and press up against the interior of the old sewer pipe; air pressure will be maintained to hold the tubing in position until the epoxy resin cures and the cured-in-place pipe Is able to maintain its shape.
4. Reattach all plumbing connections
When the section of cured-in-place pipe has been installed and has had sufficient time to harden, the plumber will use a camera to inspect the interior of the line to ensure the relined pipe is ready to return to service. Existing connections will then be restored, and the line will be tested for proper functioning.
